There is a misconception about the RV/Van Life community. You may have these expectations because of social media that you will be out exploring new places all of the time. Don’t get me wrong, this is true to an extent. However, you do have to be intentional to get outside and be active. It is so easy to stay inside and sit on the couch, no matter what your home looks like. We are grateful that we have had the opportunity to explore new places within the US this past year, but we quickly learned that the same habits that you have in a stationary home will follow you into a home on wheels.
I’ve yet to meet someone who regrets investing in nature. More and more people are actually starting to get outside. Going for walks. Going for a bike ride. Since the world shut down, I think people realized what is important. But now, more and more people have remote jobs so you may find yourself sitting at your desk and working for hours on end, then you look at the clock to realize that the day is nearly over and you have not even stepped outside.
Personally, I found that’s when I start to feel overwhelmed or stressed. So you have to make the decision to get outside and do something active. Even if it’s for 30 minutes to take my dog for a walk or go for a bike ride down the road and back.
This one small decision could make the biggest difference in both your physical and mental well-being. Being intentional, and getting out in nature is something that always makes me feel better. Every time I make the effort to spend meaningful time outdoors, that is when I feel the most fulfilled and at peace. It is also when I make the most memories!
Since my husband and I have started to travel full time one of our favorite ways to get active while also exploring the area around us is to ride our Blix Bikes! We actually don’t tow a car behind the RV, so we rely on our bikes to take us everywhere we need to go that our RV can’t. Since these are electric bikes, we have the option to turn on the settings to make the ride easier or harder depending on if we are wanting to be more active.
Sometimes we have to run small errands like picking up groceries or picking up a package. So instead of driving the RV into town, we will make a day out of it! We map out our route of where we need to go and make stops along the way to soak in our surroundings.
This is such a great way to get our bodies moving. Getting outside and doing something active with my husband makes me not only feel productive with my day, but when we experience new places together that is one of the ways I feel most connected.
Invest in yourself. Invest in nature. You won’t regret it!
