What to Eat Before a Bike Ride

Although you may not think about it while you’re cruising on an ebike, a bike ride (or an ebike ride) can be an exerting form of exercise. In order to keep your body healthy and strong, it’s essential to give it the nutrients and food it needs. Here are some foods you should consider eating before, during, and after a bike ride.

Before a bike ride, it can be beneficial to load up on your carbohydrates to give you energy for a long ride. Whether you have time to cook a big meal, or only have time for a quick snack, here are a few ideas for your pre-ride meal.

  • Oatmeal
  • Cereal
  • Açaí bowl
  • Eggs and toast
  • Yogurt and granola

On the go

If you’re taking a long bike ride, or have kiddos, it’s important to carry a few snacks with you that are easy to eat on the go. This meal should also contain carbohydrates, and maybe some protein to keep your body going strong. Try out one of these options on your next bike ride.

  • Protein/energy bars
  • Smoothies
  • Sandwiches
  • Crackers or chips
  • Beef jerky
  • Fruit

After a long ride, your body is craving water and a balanced meal with a lot of vitamins and nutrients. Along with drinking a few reusable water bottles, here are a few meal ideas for your post-ride.

  • Salmon bowl
  • Sushi with edamame
  • Burrito bowl
  • Pizza with salad
  • Sweet potato scramble

Finding the foods that work best for you pre and post-ride will take some trial and error, but knowing the foods that make you feel the best will be a great start. Looking for more health and wellness tips? Check out the Blix Journal, and make sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
