There are numerous technologies that have changed the world and radically altered how our lives. One of those technologies are electric powered vehicles. Now most of the major car manufacturers are producing electric or hybrid vehicles that use some form of electric power. The results have been astounding since electric vehicles emit no pollution and drivers no longer need to purchase gas.

This same electric-powered technology has spread to bikes, with electric bikes being a clean, renewable source of transportation, similar to electric cars. Electric bicycles, or eBikes, are not only being used for recreational purposes, they are being used as a viable transportation option used to travel to work, to the grocery store, to pick up children from school and more.

Because of this, sales of eBikes are soaring. In 2016, the Asia Pacific Asia Pacific region saw sales of 32.8 million electric bikes, while Western Europe had 1.6 million and North America had 152 thousand sales, according to Navigant. By 2050 there are expected to be 2 billion electric bikes in operation according to the Electric Bike Worldwide Report.

So What are Electric Bikes?

Electric bikes are simply a bicycle that includes:

  • A motor
  • A battery that powers the motor
  • The drivetrain that integrates the power in the rear wheel
  • A way to control the power, through a manual throttle and/or sensor that detects when the bike is being used, and provides the selected level of assistance

This seemingly complex array of electric technology provides a fast, efficient and renewable way of traveling around. Here’s how it works with the Aveny Blix electric bike:

Mid-drive motor

The mid-drive motor is the main power train. This type of motor has higher performance and torque compared to a traditional hub motor since it drives the bike crank and not the wheel. Because of this, it multiplies the power and takes better advantage of the bike’s existing gears. Since it’s positioned close to the center of gravity and low to the ground, the weight is distributed more evenly, which helps improve handling of the electric bike.

Battery

The Aveny features a Panasonic lithium-ion battery, which provides power up to 40 or 60 miles depending on battery choice. The battery is strategically placed under the seat for a low center of gravity. To charge the battery, simple plug it into a standard wall outlet, either off or on the bike. A full charge takes only three hours, but a partial charge still works.

Power

Blix Electric Bikes are powered by the Spin Tech™ system, a fully automated, electric pedal assist system with four levels of power. This allows riders to control the amount of exercise they want by selecting the level of pedal assist power, or turn it off completely. Either way, the hand throttle control is always available to power your ride.
